The Dayton Firefighters Federal Credit Union is a community credit union.
As a credit union, our sole purpose of existence is to serve our members. At DFFCU, our mission, "Delivering valued individual solutions to banking decisions," means more than just serving their financial needs-it also means working to improve their lives as a whole. One excellent way we feel we can accomplish this is by actively becoming involved in the greater community in which we operate. For everything we are able to put back in the community helps make it a better place for our members to live and prosper.
To assist in the continued development of the community, both now and in the future, the credit union seeks to become an active participant through individual contributions of time, talent by credit union employees, volunteers and the credit union as a whole.
The credit union is a sponsor of this year's Habitat build and has partnered with Dayton Habitat to help them attain a grant for $66,150 to build 10 houses. In August 2008, DFFCU and the Dayton Firefighters from Local 136 supported Habitat for Humanity together. The Credit Union and the Dayton Firefighters of Local 136 wanted to volunteer their time to support a great cause.
In order to be a sponsor for Dayton Habitat for Humanity, the Credit Union had to agree to a small cash contribution and volunteer a total of 40 hours of labor and 8 hours of landscaping from their staff and board. "We wanted to do more," said Shannon, "we have provided one-on-one counseling to the home recipients and have offered them savings accounts, a plan to help them with their down payment for the house, and even a way for them to build or establish credit." The Credit Union has already committed to sponsoring Dayton Habitat for the following year. "We look forward to a long, successful partnership together."
